X-Lite Pvt Build 1016: No audio

Postby lbudnick » Thu Jun 19, 2003 11:37 am

Installed on two different Compaqs, one w/ SoundMAX Integrated, one w/ ES1869. "Dialing tones" are OK, just no audio from far end with any codec. Regress to X-Lite "1.02" and audio is heard OK, although choppy. Local LAN connection to Asterisk server. Connection appears to be successful, packet trace shows that after 10 or so UDP packets containing audio, they apparently build up on the local system, and it starts returning failure acks to the far end.

Which Compaqs are you using?

We have tested 3650, 3950, 5450 in our lab and we are not seeing this behavior.

Please provide the configuration data

Are you using Direct-IP to communicate between 2 PC? Could you post your configuration? especially the UDP ports. You can dial *311 and *611 to bring up the configuration dialog box.

Thanks,

Ming

Maybe related to Asterisk?

Ah ha - On a completey different system - Vaio Laptop, that worked fine with Pvt build 1013. Installed 1016, and now have same symptom - no audio heard. Go back to 1013, and it works again. I don't recall the exact compaq models (they're at work) but I'd bet now that that is not the problem. The operation here is that I am dialing into the "Voice Response System" on the Asterisk server with the default sample setup, so the server is generating the audio stream itself - it is not a client to client connection. The UDP ports are the standard (8000 for RTP, 5060 for SIP), no proxy, no NAT involvement (all done testing done in private address space, using "send internal IP"). I'm suspecting something in how Asterisk does the streaming or encoding on the protocols and you guys read it? All protocols tried - G711a, G711u, GSM - react the same way. Let me know if there is any way I can help if you want.

Do you hear a dial tone after selecting a line?

Yes - All locally supplied audio works just fine - dial tone, DTMF tones... FWIW, the SIP debug shows a very similar call traces, with just differences for session IDs, etc., where one (well at least I) would expect them. I'd be happy to send them off if that would help.

Dell Inspiron 7500: No Audio for Xten Lite v2.0b1047

Postby cflogan » Wed Jul 23, 2003 9:08 am

I have no audio on a Dell laptop. Downloaded more recent version of X-Lite: 2.0 build 1047. Local audio is fine, remote audio cannot be heard despite the status bar showing that audio is being received by X-Lite. This seemed to work fine with build 1016... what happened?

Fixed!

Postby cflogan » Wed Jul 23, 2003 2:40 pm

 I reinstalled v1.02 build 1016 of X-Lite and shockingly, it too lacked audio. So, in a last ditch effort, I uninstalled X-Lite via the uninstaller, manually removed ALL Windows2K registry keys pertaining to X-Lite or Xten [why didn't the uninstaller remove these?], and reinstalled X-Lite v2.0 build 1047... audio restored. All is well.

FYI. Although your problem is resolved, build 1067 when released fixes some audio issues as well.

Working Now!

Postby lbudnick » Mon Sep 29, 2003 5:29 pm

OK, Working now --- Build 1077 of XTen, Asterisk CVS of 9/28 == Good audio, no clipping. Keypad works for IVR use! Thanks!

So: is there any clue what was going on here? Did Asterisk change something? Did XTen? Reason I am curious: My Grandstream SIP phones are now not working with Asterisk - same symptom - no audio.

If I remember correctly there were bugs on both ends. I know the X-Lite client has a bug with the marker flag, and for the audio, it has a bug in parsing the SDP. I'm not sure about the IVR side.
